If you’re thinking about going to the Poets in Autumn Tour stop in Tampa Sept. 4th (got my VIP ticket today!) and want a preview, you’re in luck! Rhetoric, the world’s largest spoken word event, will take place Friday night in California. The event is hosted by the Passion for Christ Movement (P4CM) and will feature many of their poets (including some that will be on the tour) along with many other well known Christian poets. It’s also great way to learn about up and coming artists. For those who can’t attend in person, it is usually live streamed on their website (keep in mind the time difference). Many of the pieces will also be uploaded to YouTube a few weeks after the event. Even if you’re not a night owl like me, it’s well worth staying up for. Last year’s show was phenomenal, I have high expectations for this year. There’s usually a pre show with live praise music, worship, and comedy too. In between the poems last year they showed creative, yet edifying digital shorts and music videos so there were no dull moments.
Here’s my favorite poem (it’s hard to pick) from last year. It’s by Preston Perry and Jackie Hill Perry called “The Fall”. I also enjoyed Matthew Strange’s poem “My First AA Meeting”. They are the first and second videos on the playlist below of last year’s show:
